Kylyssa Shay worked as a flowwers for eighteen years and has created and taught an assortment of crafts to adults and children of all ages. Have you ever been in a position where the only thing you can figure out to give someone as a gift was cash? Maybe you felt that wasn’t very creative or personal? Well, there’s a way you can do that and still make it an interesting and fun present. This step-by-step guide will show you how to make origami money blooms of any denomination for any occasion if you need a creative way to give currency as a gift that is unique and fun without being cheesy. The pictured bloom made of two-dollar bills used six two-dollar bills, five became petals and the sixth became the bud in the center. No legal tender is harmed moneu this craft project. The bills are only folded and siy, never cut or glued. Practice on rectangles of paper first if you are concerned about accidentally tearing the money.
1. Cut your flower stems at a 45-degree angle to keep them fresh AF.
Dollar bill origami flowers are a fun alternative to giving a bouquet of fresh flowers for a special occasion like a birthday or graduation. They look complicated at first glance but they are actually quite easy to fold. This design uses four bills, but you can use the same basic technique to create a variety of dollar bill origami flowers by adding more petals and adjusting the fullness each of each petal. You can also make the flowers smaller by folding in the smaller sides of the bill before folding the four corners to the center line. If you want to make an arrangement of flowers, but don’t have a budget that permits making them all from bills, you can cut a sheet of six-inch square origami paper in half and use the two rectangles to fold a paper version of this flower design. This design only looks nice with crisp bills. If your bills are wrinkled, iron them with low heat. You can spray them with a bit of Aleene’s Stiffen Quik if needed. This technique works well for money origami because paper money is made with 75 percent cotton and 25 percent linen fibers in order to make it durable enough to handle being used by large numbers of people in multiple transactions. Fold the first bill in half lengthwise. Fold the four corners in to meet the middle crease. Fold the top and bottom edges in to meet the middle crease. When you are finished, your bill should look like the one here. Repeat the steps to make a total of four identically folded units. Check to make sure all of your bills are the same size and shape. Stack the units on top of each other. Twist the wire around the units to join them together. If you don’t have floral or beading wire handy, a pipe cleaner also works. Do not glue or tape the money under any circumstances. Section of the United States Code states that it is illegal to cut, deface, mutilate, disfigure, perforate, or rejoin paper currency. This law mostly applies to attempts at counterfeiting, but damaging the bills makes it hard for the recipient to spend them. If you will be putting your flower money in a vase, twist the wire around a wooden grilling skewer or a thin wooden dowel to make it stand up properly. Open up each petal and fold the end corners backward to give your origami money flower the desired shape.
Turn Paper Currency into a Money Flower for a Creative Gift
Money is always a welcome gift for newlyweds and graduates, but it can be hard to find a graceful way to hand over cash. These clever money roses are both pretty and useful, and will long be remembered as one of the most creative and unusual gifts received. You can use any denomination of money, although the money flower tutorial example uses one dollar bills. Who wouldn’t love a flower constructed from fifty dollar bills? It all depends on how generous you plan to be. Remove the silk rose and sepal from the stem; save the sepal; it will be used in a later step. If you’re planning a wedding, the silk rose petals can be used on your reception tables, or you can have your flower girl toss petals onto the runner in your service. Lay your dollar bills in a row, with four bills facing down and one facing up. Lay four of the bills face down, and one of the bills face side up. The bill that is placed face up will be the center of the money rose. The bills that are face down will be the petals of the money rose. Pinch the middle of the first face down bill together using your fingers. The curled edges should be pointing downward. Take a piece of floral wire and fold it in half. Place the folded wire over the top of the center pinch, and twist together underneath. Take the bill that was designated to be the flower center the bill that was face up and pinch together. Pinch it in the center and wrap with floral wire. Arrange the bill with fingers to form a tight flower bud center. Continue pinching and wrapping all of the bills. You should now have four petals and one flower bud center.
